FPP Update
Within my FPP class I have been responsible for teaching a module on databases using the program textease.
To start this module I used an activity found on the computing unplugged website (see websites page) in which the children had 15 record cards to look at, we discussed key vocabulary to the topic i.e. That a database is a collection of records and a record has data organised into fields. Children then had to sort the records based on field information as I timed them, we then looked at how fast the computer could sort the same information.
In each subsequent lesson I have modeled different aspects of the textease software on the Interactive Whiteboard so that the children can follow along on their own laptops. This has allowed them to be successful in creating and adapting their own databases and using query searches.
