E-Safety
Every School has it's own E-safety policy as required by OFSTED, they are all different however they all have the same underlying principles of E-Safety:
- E-Safety concerns safeguarding children and young people in the digital world.
- E-Safety emphasises learning to understand and use new technologies in a positive way.
- E-Safety is less about restriction and more about education about the risks as well as the benefits so we can feel confident online.
- E-Safety is concerned with supporting children and young people to develop safer online behaviors both in and out of school.
Click Clever, Click Safe
The "Click Clever, Click Safe"is a government endorsed e-safety campaign published on NIdirect government services. It is an excellent campaign dealing with all aspects of online safety from cyber-bullying, keeping files safe online, online gaming and social networking. Another benefit of this campaign is that it is designed to be used in school, by parents and also by children with help pages specifically to help each.
E-Safety in the classroom
I have not yet had the opportunity to teach E-safety within the classroom, but I have been researching ideas to use when the time comes. The NSPCC have recently published a very useful online safety campaign with lots of useful statistics and videos promote online safety at school and at home.

I have also been looking for some child friendly videos promoting aspects of E-Safety, CBBC have an excellent short video about sharing details online and Horrible Histories have made several videos about various aspects of E-Safety including Spam, surfing the web safely and privacy online. A few example of these are below.

E- Safety on FPP
The FPP school that I am in currently follow the S.M.A.R.T. E- safety scheme:
This scheme is really effective in teaching children about online safety. Any lesson that is internet based always starts with a discussion on safe use of online sources and who and how to report any sites that they do not trust. I frequently use educational games, and youtube videos as part of lessons using the Interactive Whiteboard, and I have had discussions with the children about the dangers of pop up adverts when using these sites at home. Additionally we have spoke about what to do and who to tell if they do find themselves on a website that they do not trust.
